Practice at home: inviting a client’s parent

An invite you email a parent, or a QR code you show them, brings them into occo with their own account. Their child becomes a profile in their family account, where they follow the progress you see. With occo Family, the child plays at home too, on the same profile.

Emailing an invite

  1. On the client’s page, press Invite a parent (or Invite their family).
  2. Under Email them a link, type the parent’s email address and press Next. Check it with them if you can: they will have to sign in with that exact address.
  3. Press Send.

The parent gets one email from occo saying your clinic added their child, with a button to see their progress. It works for 30 days. The client’s page says where it went (the first letter of the address and its domain) and how many days it has left.

If nobody signs within 30 days, occo deletes the address and the page says the invite expired. Press Send again to invite the same address or another. A new invite always replaces the last one.

You can invite a parent before anyone has signed: asking is what the invite is for. A client who is already in a family’s account needs no invite.

Showing a QR code

For a parent who is with you, at a session or an event, there is nothing to type. Show them the code before you play, so what the client plays today is saved:

  1. When you add a client under 13, occo asks whether their parent is with you: press Yes. Or, on the client’s page, press Play as and then Show the code, or press Invite a parent (or Invite their family) and then Show QR. occo shows a QR code and the Join code, with the address to type it into.
  2. The parent scans the QR with their phone’s camera, or types the code. The same join opens on their phone.
  3. For a child under 13, once the parent has signed, the code goes away and the client’s page says so. Then play as the client.

The code works once, for 72 hours, and Show a new QR replaces the last. Because you hand it over in person, the parent may join with any email address. Don’t leave it where others can see it.

What the parent does

  1. They open the link, or scan the QR. occo says your clinic added their child, and they press Continue.
  2. From the emailed link, that signs them in with the address you sent it to, with nothing to type, the first time they open it. A QR code, or the link opened again, asks for their email address and the 6-digit code occo sends to it. For an emailed invite, it has to be the address you sent it to; if it isn’t, the page asks them to have you send the invite to the address they want to use.
  3. If you said their child is under 13, they go straight on to sign. If you said 13 or older, your answer is already chosen and they confirm it. Their answer is the one that counts.
  4. Under 13, they read occo’s note for parents — what occo collects, that your clinic sees their child’s progress, and how to delete it — type their name, sign and press Agree and sign.

The child joins their family account as a profile, and occo emails them a copy of what they signed, with a private link to see it, withdraw it and delete their child’s information. On Your clients, the hourglass leaves the child’s tile, and what the child plays is saved from then on. occo then opens for the parent with its Introduction.

A client who joins for themselves

A client who is 13 or older, a senior for example, can be sent the invite and join the same way, without a signature. occo asks whether the client is them. If they say yes, the clinic’s profile becomes their own profile in occo, so they have one, not two, and everything they play stays in the one record you see.

At home

Once they have joined, the family sees the client’s progress: they pick the client on Who’s playing? and open Progress. It is the same profile you play as in the clinic, so they see what you see. See a client’s progress.

Playing at home takes occo Family, the family’s own plan. Without it, every way into play leads to a screen that says the client plays occo at your clinic and offers a free trial of occo Family. With it, the client plays at home on the same profile, and what they play there shows on the client’s page with your sessions. Your plan covers the clinic, and theirs covers home.

You keep playing as the client at the clinic either way.

For a TV, open occo on the computer plugged into the TV. See putting occo on your TV.

What they practise

With occo Family, the program you give a client is what the family finds at the top of their home, in place of Jump in: Jump into your program plays the next step, and See it all shows every day’s steps. What they play from it at home moves it on, just as in the clinic, and each day ends at a checkpoint, so a family can do a day’s part and stop.

The activities under it are there to play freely, and free play doesn’t move the program. Change the program with Edit for and the client’s name on their page, and their home follows the next time it opens. See programs.

Devices opened with an older code

Before families joined with their own accounts, a code or an emailed link opened the client’s profile itself on the family’s device, and some of those devices are still signed in. They now lead to the client’s progress rather than to play. To sign the client out of every one of them at once:

  1. On the client’s page, press Invite their family (or Signed-in devices for a past client).
  2. Under Signed in somewhere?, press Sign out everywhere.
  3. occo says what it will do. Press Sign out everywhere again, or Keep them signed in.

Every phone and browser signed in as the client is signed out straight away. Their progress is kept.

When a client finishes

When a client’s access ends, an invite or a QR code nobody has used stops working, their program leaves their home, and what they play goes out of sight for your staff until you readmit them. A family who has joined keeps the profile and its progress. See ending a client’s access.

Removing a client who is in a family’s account ends your clinic’s part for good and leaves the profile with the family. Deleting a client who is in no family’s account deletes the profile itself, with every invite and code you made for it. See removing or deleting a client.
