Programs: building and assigning
A program is a few activities a day, over a few days, that you set up for one client. Their home leads with it, in the clinic and, with occo Family, at home, each step finishes when they have done what you asked, and you watch it fill in on their page.
Updated
What a program is
- Steps: each is one activity, with its settings and one thing that finishes it, such as “8 shapes matched” or “Play for 6 minutes”.
- Days: the steps are cut into days, and each day ends at a checkpoint. A day is a part of the program, not a date: the next one starts whenever the client next plays.
- One client, one program: a client has one program at a time. A new one replaces the last, which is kept under Past programs on their page.
Every member of staff can build a program, change it and assign it. Families play it; they can’t change it.
Making a client’s program
- On the client’s page, under their card, press Make a program.
- occo asks How do you want to start? Press Pick activities to choose each one yourself, Pick skills to let occo choose them, or Saved programs to start from one in your clinic’s library.
- Press an activity’s picture; the icons under its name are the skills it works on. Its settings open before it is added: set what finishes it, such as the minutes, and press Add. Add as many as you like, then press Done.
- The program opens with its steps on Day 1. It is named after what is in it; change the Name if you like, and add a Note for them, which they see on their home with the program.
- For the next day, press Add a day, then Add a step on its line.
- Press Assign to and their name. Their page shows the program, and their home leads with it the next time it opens.
As you go, the top of the page adds it up — the minutes in all, the days and about how long each takes, and the skills it works on — and each card shows about how many minutes it takes. Those are estimates: a step finishes when its finish is met, however long that takes.
Moving and changing steps
Drag a card to move it, within its day or into another; on an iPad, press and hold it first. Or open its menu, the … button, for Move up and Move down, Duplicate and Remove. Settings in the same menu, or the card’s picture or name, opens the step’s settings.
A day with no steps says No steps yet; while there is more than one day, Remove on its line takes it out.
Settings before an activity is added
Every activity asks how it finishes before it goes in — at least its minutes. One with settings for programs also shows its presets and the rest of its settings there. Cancel leaves it out.
Seeing it as the client will
Press Preview as and their name for their home’s card and the whole program, as they will see them. Nothing there plays or saves.
Leaving before you save
Your changes wait on the page until you save them. Press back before then and occo asks: Keep editing, Leave for now (they are still there when you come back on this tab) or Discard changes. After a reload the page says Your unsaved changes are back, with Start over to drop them.
Letting occo make one
Pick skills, or Generate at the top of a program, asks a few questions one at a time and makes the steps from your answers. Every step can be changed after.
- What should … work on? Pick one or more skills and press Next.
- Anything in particular? Pick what you want the steps to measure, or press Skip to work on the whole skill. Only what an activity measures is shown.
- How long each day? and For how many days? Press a number.
- How does … play? Body is in front of the camera, Finger is on the screen, and Both mixes them. It starts from how they have played lately.
- Start at … ’s level? Their level starts each step at their level in its skill; The beginning starts at level 1.
- occo shows what it made, a row of pictures for each day, and anything it couldn’t do. Press Use it, or Shuffle for another version.
If the program already has steps, it also asks whether to Replace them or Add after them. Every step it makes keeps its difficulty at the activity’s usual, so all of it counts toward skill levels.
A step’s settings
Press a card’s picture or name to open its settings. The sheet shows the activity, and which step and day it is. The same sheet opens when you add an activity, with Add in place of Save.
- Presets, where an activity has them, set several settings at once, such as Gentle or Challenge.
- Finish when is what finishes the step: pick one, such as a number of rounds, a level to pass or minutes, and how many.
- The settings follow in groups — Where, Setup, Difficulty, then Help and Sensory and pacing, folded behind how many more there are. Each says Default, or Changed with what the default is.
Press Save to keep the changes, or Cancel to leave the step as it was. An activity with minutes only has nothing to set but the minutes.
Difficulty and skill levels
A step with a Difficulty setting changed still counts in the program, and its play shows in the client’s sessions, but it doesn’t move their skill levels: a level compares play at the activity’s usual difficulty. The sheet says so, with Reset difficulty, and the card says Won’t count toward skill levels. A preset may change a difficulty setting too, and then the sheet says so.
Your clinic’s library
Programs you want to use again live in your clinic’s library. Open the account menu and choose Programs, or the Programs tab on your clinic’s page.
- New program makes one, built the same way; press Save when it is ready.
- Edit opens one, and the … menu beside it has Duplicate and Delete.
- Assign to a client…: pick who it’s for and press Next. Their program opens with a copy of the steps to adjust for them; then press Assign to and their name.
From a client’s program, Save to library keeps a copy for others. Making a new one for a client, Saved programs when occo asks how to start, or Start from a library program on the program, copies one in.
Every client gets their own copy, so changing or deleting a library program never changes one a client already has.
What the client sees
Their home leads with the program, in place of Jump in: who it is from, its name, your note, where they are (“Day 2 of 4 · 3 of 9 steps done”), a bar of the steps and the next ones’ pictures. It is the same on the clinic’s screen when you play as them and, once their family has occo Family, at home.
- Jump into your program plays the first step that isn’t done.
- See it all opens the whole program, day by day, with where each step stands. They can pick any step and press Play and its name.
Every activity is still underneath, by skill, to play freely. Free play is saved to them as always, but it doesn’t move the program.
Between steps, and at the end of a day
When a step finishes inside a day, its part of the bar fills, then Next: and the next activity counts down for 3 seconds, with Stop for now beside it.
At the end of a day’s part occo says so (“Day 2 done!”), with See you tomorrow and Keep going. To leave out Keep going, set At the end of each day at the top of their program to Stop for the day.
When the last step is done the program is finished: occo celebrates once, their page lists it under Past programs as Completed, and their home has plain Jump in again.
When a step can’t be played
If an activity can’t run on the device — there is no camera, the camera isn’t allowed, or the activity didn’t load — the step is marked Couldn’t play, with why, and the client is offered the next step. Playing it later on a device where it runs clears it.
How a step counts
- In any order. A step is done when its finish is met, whichever step came before it.
- Part-way is kept. Leave a step at 5 of 8 and it starts from 5 next time. It is done only when it reaches 8.
- Only from the program. Play started from Jump into your program or See it all, and the steps that follow on from them, counts. Free play from the activities underneath does not.
- Minutes are minutes of play. They count while the activity is on screen and, for a camera activity, someone is in view. A tablet left on with nobody there finishes nothing.
- A done step stays done. Played again, the session is saved and shows under the step.
Changing or replacing a program
On the client’s page, Edit for and their name opens their program. Change what you like, then press Save changes; their home follows the next time it opens.
- A done step is locked, with when it was done. It can move, but its settings can’t change and it can’t be removed.
- Changing what finishes a step that has started starts its count again. Its other settings can change without losing the count.
To start again with a new program, press Replace (in the program, Make a new one instead). Build it, press Assign to and their name, and occo asks once more. The old one goes under Past programs with its progress, and the client starts the new one from its first step.
To follow how it is going, see programs on a client’s page.
When a client’s access ends
Their program leaves their home, and nothing they play moves it. Readmit them and it is back where it was. Their programs are kept with the rest of their history, and deleting a client deletes them too. See ending a client’s access.
Common questions
No. Jump into your program always plays the first step not done, but the client can pick any step from See it all, and it counts when its finish is met.
Yes: assigning it saves nothing about the child. A program plays only while the client’s play is saved, so a child under 13 starts it once a parent has signed. See a parent’s consent.
Its step has a Difficulty setting changed, so it is kept out of skill levels, or its activity doesn’t measure a skill. The session still shows on their page.
No. Each client’s program is a copy. Change theirs with Edit for and their name on their page.
